Why netball footwear needs lateral stability, grip and fit for repeated jumping, landing and change of direction.

Netball places specific demands on shoes

Netball combines acceleration, sharp changes of direction, jumping and repeated landing. A shoe designed only for straight-line running may not provide the lateral stability needed for these movements.

Features to look for

Prioritise secure heel hold, adequate forefoot width, lateral support, reliable court grip and enough cushioning for repeated impact. The shoe should feel stable when cutting side to side, not just comfortable when walking.

Fit still comes first

Even a technically excellent shoe can cause problems if it is too short, too narrow or allows the foot to slide. Try footwear with the socks or braces you normally use for sport.

If pain keeps returning

Persistent ankle, heel, knee or forefoot pain may require more than a shoe change. Assessment can identify strength, load and movement factors that also need to be addressed.

Clinical note: Online information cannot replace an individual assessment. If symptoms are severe, worsening or affecting your ability to walk or exercise, arrange an appropriate clinical review.
